We recommend exploring the pebbly beach of Spooner’s Cove, where surreal rock formations emerge during lower tides. Head up to the southernmost point of Montana de Oro State Park to reach Coon Creek Beach and wander through the deep sea coves and arches in the rocky landscape.

Nature Reserves

The Los Osos Oaks State Nature Reserve is a popular destination, with hiking paths that wind through various plant life – including a grove of dwarfed oaks that live in the sand dunes. Another protected place we encourage nature-lovers to visit is the Morro Dunes Natural Preserve, where birds bury their eggs when nesting every year. You’ll be awed by the spectacular views across the bay to the city of Morro Bay. Are you a fan of bird-watching? Don’t miss Sweet Springs Nature Reserve in Los Osos, CA. A trail system runs through this park and the Audobon Society set up a large bird blind.
